All property investors should eat breath and sleep self development
The importance of working on yourself
For many years I saw other people in the property game and though to myself “I wish I could do that, I would love to be have my own properties”. After working restlessly hard I managed to find the self-discipline necessary to get my finances in order and start saving in order to get my foot on the property Ladder, then I started coming across so many challenges that it got my head spinning around as I jumped into it too quickly.
I was lacking the necessary preparation in terms of know-how and having a local power team of people that I could reply on to get the job done, since I hadn’t done any training at the time and underestimated the importance of doing thorough due diligence in order to understand the area, the market, the procedures when things go wrong and who could I go to in order to make sure it all goes well. I’m taking about the fact that sometimes we are victims of our own success and we root for everything to work out, but when it does, unless we are 100% ready for that next stage of our growth, we might find ourselves in a deeper hole than before.
What I’m trying to say is due to the fact that I was so eager to get started I acted like a complete newbie and spontaneously and casually went to properties that were not good investments.
I was where I wanted to be – I was in the property game! – but at what cost?
The stress that brought me sleepless nights of anxiety, the moments I felt on the verge of having a panic attack, the anxiety that was created by the pure pressure of failing and the fear things wouldn’t fall into place and I would lose all the funds I worked sooooooooooo hard to invest.
“How can I keep my head up high when I’m going through so many issues I wasn’t even aware could happen? Can someone tell me where’s the manual for this? “
Careful what you wish because you just might get it right?
I only realized that I needed to have proper training from professionals and invest on courses from experts in the field after I got myself in turbulent rides, I wish I realized the importance of that before I got in it…
What’s the point of finding yourself a voucher for a free meal in your wallet after you have already got your food and paid the bill at a restaurant? The truth is I wish I seeked help from trainers, coaches, mentors, keynote speakers and seasoned property investors before signing my 1st contract.
Now my approach is completely different, since I came to the realization that the more knowledge I have the more power I have, the more information I obtain, the more access to higher levels I can gain. I read and listen to books, I attend masterclasses/ seminars/ conventions/ exhibitions, I go to network events as much as I can (local or not I make an effort and travel deliberately for this), I’m all over webminars and podcasts and I also have a mentor who provides me 1 to 1 support on a regular basis.
Some people don’t see the value of someone like me who is now a full time professional property investor to go out of their way to do all the above. Nevertheless the I reckon that in order to provide a better service when offering consultancy, sourcing and coaching I must keep absorving all I can

The good the bad and the ugly
Not everything that shines is gold
Don’t be foolish to think that you are the only one who has made silly mistakes in your property journey, who wishes they could have done things completely differently, who has lost a lot of money or all your money and had real struggles to deal with. Most of us have but you gotta take the bad with the good and believe that it’s all a learning curve preparing you for the next stage.
Yes we live in a world where people are too hypocrite to admit it and want everybody to look at them and see the success story, the smiles on the selfies in social media with the keys to the property, but not the times when they almost lost their minds trying to keep their shit together!
There’s a lot of training course providers who are selling the dream of perfect property investments, of passive income through property when you work from a paradisiac location and just need your phone to run it while you are sipping cocktails in the beach so let me be the bearer of bad news: ITS NOT A WALK IN THE PARK
Everybody wants to get in the game, until they realize what it actually requires and that it comes at a very high cost, therefore don’t fall into the trap of thinking this is easy and as long as you can watch some Youtube videos of ask your local estate agents for their opinion (which is subjective at the very least) you can do this with 1 beg behind your back.
The initial and middle stages will require you to give it ALL you have got:
When taking the 1st steps you do it all yourself as you haven’t got enough income to recruit so the no social life, no time to workout, eat properly or even sleep starts #notimetochill
Then you start making some money and decide to delegate tasks, outsource assistance and recruit staff to help you. But finding someone who cares as much as you do, dedicates themselves to it and with your work ethics proves to be mission impossible so now that you can get a team you can’t find the right people so your business suffers and you feel overwelmed as you are doing your job as the director as well as 5 other people…
Then you finally get the grips of the best way to search for staff and managing them appropriately with all the measurements in place for a good HR practice. And yes you will still have to train, guide and supervise them so it will still feel like you are in the same position as before, but its temporary. After some time you will figure out how to get things flowing and everybody focusing on their own work so that you can create your vision, bring it into reality with a power team beside you make it happen – all while you still remain humble enough to know that you will need constant learning to keep getting better and better. Your hard work will pay off and your bigger projects CAN be done, as you wake up every day with the confidence of someone who understands exactly who they are, where they are heading to and how they are going to get there (by having to deal with losses, shitty people and daily problems).
Evolution requires some setbacks but you will STILL get through the finish line
Don’t you know that as long as you don’t give up you will always have a chance to succeed?
No matter if the odds are against you it CAN happen and it’s not as far-fetched as it seams.
Did you know the changes of me being born are 1 in 400 Trillion?
The changes of you becoming a millionaire are 1.7%?
Come on now if I can do this then so can you as long as you adopt the right attitude and don’t be a know it all type of person – arrogance is a useless characteristic and doesn’t suit nobody, not even you and your cute self ☺
